James K. Curto is chief executive officer and executive director of The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, IL. He is a founder of The Birches and conducted the pre-development work prior to the start of construction in 1998. He has been executive director of The Birches since he began hiring staff in July 1999 prior to the October 1999 opening.
His professional career has been primarily in hospital administration having held positions in Illinois, Minnesota, and St. Louis, Mo. Previously, he ran two large nursing homes in the Chicago area.
Curto is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. In 1975, he received a master’s degree in health care administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
